class=\"fg-caption-inner\"><\/div><\/figcaption><\/figure><div class=\"fg-loader\"><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\n<p>Der Ausgangspunkt mich mit afrikanischen Masken intensiver zu besch\u00e4ftigen waren die Ergebnisse, welche ich aus fr\u00fcheren Studien zu den Themen Polarit\u00e4t, Symmetrie und menschliches Gesicht gewonnen hatte. Aber auch die spezifische \u00c4sthetik dieser Objekte, welche ja in der Vergangenheit schon so oft Einfluss auf die europ\u00e4ische Kunst genommen hatte, gew\u00e4hrte mir einen Zugang.<\/p>\n<p>Die erste Maske, die in dieser Serie entstand, war die rote Duala-Maske aus Kamerun. Sie stilisiert als Einzige ein Tier \u2013 vielleicht ein Gnus. Ich f\u00fchlte mich hierbei von der Abbildung in einem Buch angesprochen. Die zweite Maske, die ich anfertigte, war die dunkelblaue Fang-Maske aus Gabun. Diese besitzt 12 stilisierte Z\u00e4hne. So kam mir die Idee Leonardo da Vincis \u201eLetztes Abendmahl\u201c  zu zitieren: 13 unterschiedliche Masken, wobei die dunkelblaue Maske Jesus in zentraler Position darstellen sollte. Aber anders als Leonardo, der die Szene mit Figuren darstellte und den J\u00fcngern jeweils ein Tierkreiszeichen mit einem spezifischen Gestus zuordnete, entschied ich mich einen anderen Weg zu nehmen, n\u00e4mlich jeder Maske bzw. jedem J\u00fcnger eine Farbe zuzuordnen. Dabei wurde auf eine spezifische Zuordnung einer Farbe zu einem ganz bestimmten J\u00fcnger verzichtet. Stattdessen wollte ich die einzelnen Farben aus den drei Grundfarben Rot, Blau und Gelb herleiten. Die vier Farben 2. Ordnung (Orange, Violett, Gr\u00fcn und Dunkelbraun) gehen dann aus Mischungen der drei Grundfarben hervor. Dabei sind die dazugeh\u00f6rigen Masken in Frontalansicht gemalt, \u2013 die Masken mit den Farben 3. Ordnung auch plastisch. Die Zuordnung der Farben 3. Ordnung zu sechs weiteren Masken wurde nach dem Komplementarit\u00e4tsprinzip fortgef\u00fchrt. Diese sechs Masken bilden zwei Dreiergruppen, in denn vier Masken in Seitenansicht abgebildet sind, so dass die zwei verbliebenen \u2013 in Frontalansicht gezeigten Masken \u2013 von diesen eingeschlossen werden \u2013 also \u00e4hnlich, wie es Leonardo tat. Die hellblaue Lwalwa-Maske aus dem Kongo enth\u00e4lt wieder das Himmelblau, in dem das Blau der Maske des Jesus bereits enthalten ist. Dadurch \u2013 mit dem m\u00e4nnlichen Kind \u2013 muss man sich also den Zyklus wieder von vorne, in der Mitte beginnend, vorstellen. Die Masken mit den Farben 2. Und 3. Ordnung sind zus\u00e4tzlich mit einer jeweils spezifischen Anzahl von Zwischent\u00f6nen gestaltet, und zwar \u2013 von innen nach au\u00dfen gez\u00e4hlt \u2013 mit zwei bis vier unterschiedlichen Farbt\u00f6nen. S\u00e4mtliche Masken sind zudem mit Graut\u00f6nen gemalt, wobei hier auch nur drei Kaltgraustufen zum Einsatz kamen. Zugleich wurden alle Masken auf schwarzem Fotokarton dargestellt und mit schwarzen Passepartouts versehen, welche die Profillinien der Gesichter nachzeichnen (auf der Website nicht zu sehen). Auf Wei\u00df wurde bewusst verzichtet.
