Dabei besch\u00e4ftigt mich v.a. die Frage nach den Grenzen des Aussageverm\u00f6gens von Kunst und Wissenschaft, und ob nicht sowohl der k\u00fcnstlerische Blick als auch der wissenschaftliche Blick gemeinsam die Erscheinungsformen der belebten Welt vielleicht vollst\u00e4ndiger und umfassender deuten kann. Wie viel Kunstform steckt in der Naturform? \u2013 der Versuch der Beantwortung dieser Frage ist mir ein zentrales Anliegen.<\/p>\n<p>Adolf Portmann (1897-1982) war ein Schweizer Biologe, der an den meeresbiologischen Laboratorien in Banyuls-sur-Mer, Villefranche, Roscoff und Helgoland speziell an Hinterkiemerschnecken forschte, und der 1931 zum Professor f\u00fcr Zoologie an die Universit\u00e4t Basel berufen wurde. Er arbeitete interdisziplin\u00e4r, und lieferte grundlegende Beitr\u00e4ge zur Meereszoologie, Morphologie, Anthropologie und Verhaltensbiologie. Ein immer wieder in Portmanns Forschungen und Publikationen auftretendes Thema ist die \u00e4u\u00dfere Gestalt der Tiere. Portmann stellt hier die bereits zu seinen Lebzeiten heftig umstrittene These auf, dass die Gestaltung der Oberfl\u00e4che der Tiere nicht ohne weiteres aus deren adaptiven Wert zu erkl\u00e4ren sei.Sein Interesse f\u00fcr marine Nacktschnecken, von denen er sich geradezu magisch angezogen f\u00fchlte, m\u00fcndete schlie\u00dflich in dem 1982 \u2013 gemeinsam mit seiner langj\u00e4hrigen Mitarbeiterin Luise Schmekel \u2013 publizierten Werk \u201eOpisthobranchia des Mittelmeeres\u201c (Abb. 1).<\/p>\n<p>Marine Hinterkiemerschnecken sind zwittrig, und besitzen Zwitterdr\u00fcsen. Das sind Keimdr\u00fcsen, die die Funktion von Hoden und Ovar in sich vereinen, und sowohl Spermien als auch Eizellen produzieren k\u00f6nnen. Da eine Selbstbefruchtung immer verhindert werden soll, werden die Keimzellen nicht gleichzeitig gebildet. Meist werden die Spermien zeitlich vor den Eizellen erzeugt. Dies geschieht in der Regel in unterschiedlichen Regionen der Zwitterdr\u00fcse. Die nur wenige Millimeter bis Zentimeter gro\u00dfen Tiere sind au\u00dferordentlich lebhaft gezeichnet (Abb.2), und ben\u00f6tigen zur Fortpflanzung immer einen Kopulationspartner, der die Besamung durch einen Penis erm\u00f6glicht. Teilweise hat ein Individuum auch mehrere Geschlechtspartner, was es erforderlich macht, dass die Spermien der verschiedenen Kopulationspartner in jeweils individuellen Hohlr\u00e4umen zwischengelagert, und am Leben erhalten werden m\u00fcssen. Hinzu kommen spezielle Dr\u00fcsen und Organe, die die Eizellen mit N\u00e4hrstoffen versorgen, und ggf. mit einer Schale umgeben, bevor sie abgelegt werden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201eDie Wissenschaft hat Kr\u00fccken, die Kunst hat Schwingen\u201c lautet ein ber\u00fchmtes Zitat des Kubisten Georges Braque (1882-1963). Die hier gezeigte Ausstellung soll dieses Zitat veranschaulichen: Durch das Weglassen der Beschriftungen auf den Originalzeichnungen der Geschlechtsapparate einzelner Arten (den \u201eKr\u00fccken\u201c in Abb. 3), und anschlie\u00dfendes skalieren und kolorieren, erscheinen die schon per se erotisch, \u201eschl\u00fcpfrig\u201c und verspielt anmutenden Gebilde in einer anderen, neuen Qualit\u00e4t, die vielleicht das Pr\u00e4dikat Kunst verdient. Hier wird Gestaltung zu einem dem Lebensstoff immanenten, ganz nat\u00fcrlichem Willen zum Ausdruck. Durch einen gleichsam wundersamen Prozess der Transformation entpuppt sich die verwissenschaftlichte Naturform auf einmal als reine Kunstform, die sich auf Schwingen erhebt, die sie schon immer hatte, und die die Natur auch als K\u00fcnstlerin erscheinen l\u00e4sst.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In meinen Arbeiten interessiere ich mich f\u00fcr das Spannungsfeld zwischen Natur, Kunst und Wissenschaft.
